Dr. Alejandra Sequeira, phd
Hi, I’m Alejandra “Ally” Sequeira and I am a Counseling Psychologist, licensed in both Texas and California. I obtained my Bachelors of Arts in History and Psychology from The University of Alabama and both my Masters of Education in Educational Psychology and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University.
Throughout my graduate training, I primarily focused on treating anxiety-related concerns using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I gained experience treating individuals across the lifespan and of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds in a variety of clinical settings (ex: Federally Qualified Health Center, private practice, medical settings, Child Advocacy Center, tele-health counseling center, autism clinic, and career counseling centers). As I am fluent in Spanish, I ensured that my training allowed me to develop my clinical skills in providing quality therapy to both English and Spanish speakers.
Specifically, I have considerable experience in treating eating disorders, depression, trauma, health-related concerns, major life stressors, and anxiety disorders using evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Cherokee Health System in Knoxville, TN where I further honed my clinical skills in both a community mental health and medical setting. During this year, I realized that I wanted to spend the rest of my career helping individuals overcome their fears and fight their anxiety.
I developed my love for treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in 2017 when I began my post-doctoral fellowship at The OCD and Anxiety Program of Southern California. During my two years at this program, I realized that I thoroughly enjoy helping people face their fears, accept uncertainty, and learn to trust themselves over their OCD-induced doubts.
I moved back home to Houston in August 2019 at which time I began working at the McLean OCD Institute at Houston. There, I worked with children, adolescents, and adults with OCD, OCD-related disorders, and other anxiety disorders in an outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential clinical setting.
